About The Owner
Shae Alexis Anderson, PhD
Dr. Shae A. Anderson is a professional writer and editor who has written artist profiles for visual artists of color such as Evita Tezeno, George Hunt, and Steve Prince. Over her 10 years as the Executive Director of the Liberty Theatre, one of just three historical African-American theaters in the state of Georgia, she developed a host of workshops and other programming centered around the African American experience that merged arts, culture, local African American history, and entrepreneurship.The stories of local legends such as Ma Rainey, Thomas Brewer, and Blind Tom Wiggins and others were amongst just a few of the figures explored through programming and stage productions.
Dr. Shae is now the Executive Director of the Robert Lamar Anderson Foundation, a community focused organization founded in her father’s memory. She is also a non-profit consultant and focuses on working with new & emerging non profits to help them avoid some of the pitfalls and problems that non-profit leaders often face.
Shae holds a B.A. in English from Bennett College, an M.A. in Technical & Professional Writing from Georgia State University, and a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition - also from GSU, and she has more than 20 years of classroom experience at the secondary and post-secondary levels. In addition to standard ELA courses and post-secondary core classes, Shae has also developed and taught writing based courses and cross-listed courses centered around AAVE, African-American Literature, Black Comedy, the Black Power Movement, Classical Rhetoric, Composition Pedagogy, and more.
Dr. Shae's academic interests include composition pedagogy, classical rhetoric, African-American rhetoric, AAVE, and urban education. She has written and given talks on topics such as: “From the ‘Hood to the Classroom: A Rhetorical Perspective on Teaching Secondary English to the Urban Student”,“Hip-Hop Language and its Impact on the African-American Classroom” ,“African American Language: Getting Prepared to Enter the Debate” , and “Satire and its Comedic Intent: The Social and Political Commentary of Aristophanes and The Boondocks.”
She is the founder and co-publisher, Georgia based publishing company UrbanEdge Publishing where she offers author coaching, provides editing services, publishes traditional projects, and helps clients self-publish their books. Shae is also the owner of The CoWork Boutique, an in person and virtual coworking community for women.
